Open Awards Employability and Professional Development

Open Awards Entry 3/Level 1 Certificate in Employment and Professional Development

This is a two year course that students will study during Year 12 and Year 13.  There are two levels of qualification available – Entry 3 and Level 1. Students will study an appropriate level according to their ability.

What is the course about?

The primary purpose of this qualification is to recognise development of employability skills and/or knowledge. This qualification has been designed to either support you with your active search for employment or aid you in your professional development whilst in the workplace. The qualification will enable learners to develop skills, attributes, behaviours and values which contribute to increased confidence and motivation and enable sustained and successful employment.

The qualification will support you

  • to gain employment
  • to study L1/L2 in Skills for Further Learning and Employment
  • to progress to an internship or Apprenticeship in a chosen vocational area

Enrichment Opportunities

We offer a variety of enrichment choices which complete the Employability programme including employer visits, specialist speakers and trips and visits to relevant organisations.  As part of this programme, all learners will undertake a work placement in a vocational area that they are interested in.

How will I be assessed?

The recommended assessment method is a Portfolio of evidence.  Candidates must provide sufficient evidence that they have the required knowledge, skills and understanding of the assessment criteria and that it is their own work. Types of evidence could include:

  • Observationa of performance
  • Practical activities
  • Photographs or videos
  • Personal Statements
  • Project work
  • Witness statements
  • Group discussions
  • Questioning (written or oral)
