All students participate in a wide range of Literacy activities throughout the school week to develop and refine their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills.
Each student is guided to select a reading book that is suitable for their reading and chronological age. Once a student has finished their book, they complete an online quiz to measure their understanding and progress. Students are encouraged to read a variety of materials and for their own pleasure.
Here are some of the comments students have made about reading:
- "I like to bring my own books into school. It is calming and fun."
- "I find the reading lessons relaxing and I learn more through reading."
- "Reading is enjoyable. It helps me to discover new content."
We also subscribe to First News which gives current and relevant news from around the world. We have access to a bank of resources and activities to make learning interactive and fun. This includes debate material and quizzes.
All students have unlimited access to Study Ladder. This is an online platform to improve Literacy skills through quizzes and games. The tasks set are personalised for each individual student to ensure they are targeting relevant skills. This can be accessed at home through a computer or mobile device. Each student has their own personal login which records their progress.
