ASDAN Personal Development

ASDAN PDP is a nationally recognised award programme. Ashley High School offers this award at Bronze and Silver Levels. The level of programme studied reflects the abilities of the students in each teaching group. The programme is designed to develop, assess and accredit Key Skills and to recognise personal achievement. The course involves numerous out of school activities and visits.

Students work through a series of modules and each module completed is worth 1 credit. Each credit takes approximately 10 hours work to achieve. To gain a pass at Bronze level the student must complete 6 credits, have an organised file, recognise the key skills they have used, produce 3 Action Plans/Reviews and produce a Summary of their achievements. Silver Award can be gained with exceptionally hard work and students must complete a portfolio of evidence containing 12 credits, a summary of achievement and 6 Action Plans/Reviews to be accredited with this level of award.

All work is internally verified and externally moderated.

Ashley High School has a pass rate of 100% for this course.

Students usually progress from PDP to AoPE Level 1 or COPE Level 1 or 2.

The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness is a nationally recognised qualification outcome of the ASDAN programmes. The qualifications offer imaginative ways of accrediting young people's activities. They promote, and allow centres to record, a wide range of personal qualities, abilities and achievements of young people, as well as introducing them to new activities and challenges.

COPE comprises 12 modules, each of which is divided into three sections. Each section should take 10 hours, which is worth one credit. Students will need 12 credits to gain the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness.

By building a Portfolio of Evidence as they complete various challenges, students must demonstrate competence at Level 1 or 2 in the following skills: Introduction to Working with Others, Introduction to Improving own Learning and Performance, Introduction to Problem Solving, Planning and Carrying out a Piece of Research, Communication through Discussion and Planning and Giving an Oral Presentation.
